This session will focus on the latest work on the development of Metered Energy Savings (MES) methodologies to calculate the impact of energy efficiency interventions in the UK. MES approaches compare energy usage post-retrofit with a “counterfactual” - the energy the household would have used in the same period had the retrofit not happened.

We're pleased to be joined by Connor Galbraith, Data Scientist at Energy Systems Catapult who has been leading the work on how this Counterfactual is generated in the recent RetroMeter project. The work draws extensively on work done internationally via LF Energy's OpenEEMeter project.

Regular attendees will be familiar with MES approaches from our previous sessions on CalTRACK/OpenEEmeter and the launch of Carbon Co-op's own MES web tool, PowerShaper Tracker.

Connor will be discussing:

  • How the models work
  • In what circumstances different models can be used
  • The performance (accuracy, bias) of different models
  • Data sources and data accessibility issues for data needed for different models
