Sustainable Home Design

Many people have never thought about how decisions about their home design affects the environment. But your furnishings and finish choices affect both your health and the planet.

This presentation is designed to give an overview of four major criteria you could use to evaluate interior design products for sustainability: Healthier Homes, Resource Conservation, Responsible Materials and Quality. We outline and cover some information about why we should be concerned about the products we specify, in each of the four evaluation criteria. Then using these categories, we present what data sources, green building checklists, and common sense techniques we can use to choose the healthiest, and lowest impact product solutions. Finally, we talk a bit about how to incorporate this knowledge into your home product shopping.

Bio
Kirsten Flynn is a multi award winning interior designer and owner of Sustainable Home Interior Design, a residential design firm focused on healthy home choices. She is a life long resident of the Bay Area, and enjoys gardening, attending live music events, and her family.
