About us
Great ideas have always been born over drinks. Economics is no exception.
Consider the evidence. In 1974, Arthur Laffer sketched a curve on a napkin over dinner, and it went on to shape tax debates for decades. Orley Ashenfelter (probably your favorite economist’s favorite economist), got so serious about wine that he predicted vintage prices from weather data and co-founded the Journal of Wine Economics. The pattern is clear: put economists near a beverage, and ideas happen. Causality? We’ll debate it. Over drinks.
Economists with Drinks is a relaxed meetup for everyone in and around Vancouver who thinks in incentives, trade-offs, and marginal everything.
Who should come?
Economists, econ grads, data people, policy nerds, finance folks, journalists, and the econ-curious. A PhD is not required. Neither is a strong opinion on the minimum wage, though you’ll probably get asked.
What happens at our meetups?
Good drinks at good Vancouver spots.
Conversations about research, jobs, policy, and the weird things we noticed in the data this week
Hot takes, cold pints, and the occasional back-of-the-envelope (or rather napkin) sketch.
Zero slides. Zero seminars. Zero p-hacking.
