Description: Want to start camping, backpacking or thru hiking? Or do you wonder what kind of gear is out there that could make enjoying the outdoors more comfortable, enjoyable or novel? Go no further!
Come, join me for a days in the Cascade Locks at Thunder Island where we will camp out and enjoy over 100 sponsors offering the latest outdoor gear at an expo & marketplace. There will be raffles, games, live music, and more! Food vendors will be offering a great variety of tasty bites and thirst quenching beverages! Daily attendance is free (suggested donation of a non-perishable food item or monetary contribution to the Columbia Gorge Food Bank is appreciated).
I will be arriving there as early as I can to ensure I get a good spot to put up my camping hammock, but really you can come anytime during the event. If you plan on camping come early to be able to find a good spot and/or be able to camp together as an EDHC group!
Once camp is set up we will very casually enjoying the festivities, there are many things to do and it pays to take your time and enjoy it all as it unfolds.
We will also take a short hike one of the days to stretch our legs and get a change of scenery that is entirely optional and will be decided on during the event as a group.
Camping on Thunder Island opens at 8am on Friday, Aug. 18th and closes 10am on Sunday, Aug. 20th, (when everyone must be off of Thunder Island).

Difficulty: This is a beginner friendly event, since no one will be required to attend the hike(s) and so can stay at Thunder Island the entire duration if they so choose. Hikes vary in difficulty.
Carpooling/Driving: We will be setting up a carpooling at 1307 NE 102nd Ave. Jamba. We leave by 07:15am sharp. If you are running late you may have to drive on your own.
Passengers, please pay your driver for gas. At 10¢ per mile. It is approx. 36 miles driving from Gateway to Cascade Locks, so $7 total.
Parking/Fees: There are no fees associated with these locations once you register. For safety, sanity and convenience we will try to stay togetherer as a convoy en route and in situ. Parking is open 8am – 8pm daily.
Safety/First-Aid: Please, do not come to my events with symptoms of being ill. Stay at home if you’re sick!
Recommended Gear/Items:
- Weather appropriate clothing/Adjustable layers - This is the PNW.
- Food, Water, Snacks and anything you’ll need/want to be comfortsble for three days - There will be food vendors on site but you may want to bring consumables for the off hrs.
- Sun Protection - Sunglasses, sunscreen, soft clothing, wide brimmed hats, etc.
- A positive attitude, sense of wonder and wish to be a part of a greater community of truly amazing people.

• Distance/elevation are estimates only, actual stats may vary. LOQ is noted when a measurement is unquantifiable.
• No Shows/Last Minute Cancellations: - By signing up for these hikes you agree to the no-show rule; If you drop for the RSVP ‘Going’ list within 24hrs of the hike you may be counted as a no-show. Multiple no shows will cause you to lose favor on meetup events with limited availability.
• Do not expect to hike with us again if you do not adhere to these rules.
