Description: This is the hike #06 of 20 in a series of beginner friendly hikes that cover the entire 80+ miles of trails in Forest Park! Since not all of the trails may be done as independent loops (forcing us to double over our path many times), it will require hiking more than 115 miles to complete the entire challenge.
This hike will mark the end of the 1st quarter of this series, and arguably the toughest of them, so consider hike #6 a kick in the on your way out the door just so you have something to remember these first ones by. Heh
This hike begins in the startling Beautiful Cathedral Park in the Saint John’s district. We will do a short tour of the park before finding our way up to Saint John’s bridge and taking it to Forest Park! The Ridge Trail will dutifully bring our group up to NW Leif Erickson. From there we’ll meander a it before Hardesty gets our bpm revving once again. It should be getting dark soon, and the toughest stuff is mostly done, so we will take a short respite and carefully head back down to Cathedral Park to finish things up for the evening!
Difficulty: This is a beginner friendly hike, as we will be keeping a decent pace of an average of 2.0mph throughout, May be slightly faster depending on groups’ abilities. This can be difficult for some that have sedentary lifestyles, so please don’t be discouraged if at first you don’t succeed, just try try again.
For those that find the hike a little too difficult I recommend trying other hikes we have that are beginner friendly to work your ability up to joining us here on the series!
Carpooling/Driving: I will not be carpooling myself, but if you wish to do so please organize that on your own.
LEAVE YOUR VALUABLES AT HOME!
Easily accessible/popular Trailheads are prime targets for thieves, so please leave your valuables at home or at least make sure they are not visible from outside vehicles.
Parking/Fees: There are no fees associated with this Trailhead. The last time I was there it was free, so fingers crossed it hasn’t changed. Park in the parking lot closest to the boat landing on the Northwest side of Cathedral Park.
Expectation: No one gets left behind. That is our Golden Rule. Our hikes are group hikes so everybody is expected to hike between the designated pace setter and the sweep and not ahead or behind the group. By signing up for these events you have implied your agreement to follow this rule.
Safety/First-Aid: Please, do not come to my hikes with symptoms of being ill. Stay at home if you’re sick!
Recommended Gear, Items:
