2026🥾Forest Park🌲All Trails Challenge🐢Beginner Friendly Version

📜This is hike #1 in a series of 20 beginner friendly hikes that cover the entire 80+ miles of trails in Forest Park! Because not all of the trails can be done as independent loops (and we will be doubling over our path many times) it will require hiking more than 115 miles to complete the entire challenge! If you miss a hike, no worries, we have this series twice a year and makeup hikes can be arranged. Never the same way twice due to natural and unnatural changes to the park throughout time and space! It’s ever changing, just as it should be!

This hike fittingly starts at the beginning of the longest of Forest Park’s trails, the Wildwood Trail (30.2m!). We take the Wildwood starting at the Zoo “directly” to Pittock Mansion. Once we arrive to Pittock we will stop briefly for a little snack/facilities break before we take a more diluted route (not the Wildwood) back to the where we started.

Difficulty💪🏽
This IS somewhat a beginner friendly hike, as we will be keeping a pace of an average of 2-2.5mph throughout, could be slightly faster/slower depending on groups’ abilities. I try to go as fast as the slowest person will allow me. This can be difficult for some that have sedentary lifestyles, so please don’t be discouraged if at first you don’t succeed, just try try try again.

Carpooling/Driving🚗🚙
Since this is in town, I will not be carpooling myself, but if you wish to do so please organize that on your own in the Event Comments section.
For those who want to carpool, just know that you should be prepared to drive or take public transit.

Parking/Fees🅿️
There are parking meters in multiple areas of Washington Park. The nearest free parking is near the Hoyt Arboretum on SW Fairview Blvd (4139 SW Fairview Blvd). I have the Meetup Coordinates take you there. It is approx. 0.25mi distance over and down a hill from where we will be meeting though. So I usually park there and give myself 10min to walk over to the Wildwood Trailhead.
If you do not wish to carpool or drive there is a Max station located under the Zoo that brings you right to where we are meeting through a really amazing underground tunnel.
