Please Read - Updates Made
🌑 Our silent sentinel stabilizes our planet’s axial wobble, regulates tides, and reflects radiation from the sun to us.
Among countless other influences, the Moon has been an integral part of our planet, all its inhabitants, and our culture at large.
🌒 Let’s partake in a long-established tradition of walking at night by the light of our celestial sibling and sharing stories and spaces together.
🌓 We will begin with plenty of light, but expect to be hiking at dusk and in the dark.
🔴 Red-light filters or lenses strongly preferred
If you do not have a red lens, you will be expected to hike behind those that do.
🔦 Headlamps and/or flashlights are mandatory
🚫 Phone lights are not acceptable substitutes.
🌔 We may be at the summit looking for the moonrise as expected, but this is not guaranteed.
Moonrise timing can vary depending on where it crests over the horizon.
🌄 Sometimes the moon rises before sunset, in which case we’ll simply enjoy both presences together if possible.
Be malleable. Learn to adapt.
🌕 Weather & Comfort
🧥 Bring layers — it can still get cold and is often windy at the top of Powell Butte.
🌧️ Cloudy or rainy weather will not cancel the hike — come rain-ready.
🥪 There will be time to eat snacks and use the “toilet-trees” at the summit.
⏳ Expect to linger up top (about an hour if weather permits), not moving, as we enjoy each other’s company and the often-taken-for-granted cosmic spectacle.
🌛 This is not exactly beginner-friendly.
We’ll be hiking 4–6 miles in low-light conditions with some elevation gain.
That said, we will not be moving fast — if you’re a beginner looking for a slightly challenging experience, this could be a good fit.
