It may not feel like it, but the days have started to grow longer - good excuse to go out and celebrate the extra 5min of daylight with a spin out to Dundas Loch and Castle. We'll head out via the CCWEL to the shared use path along the tram tracks, then turn off to enjoy a bit of quiet via SASA, before emerging back on to the path to the airport and Newbridge. We'll take the off-road track to Kirkliston and wend round the hidden paths before joining the B road and the shared use path toward South Queensferry. We'll enter the Dundas Estate at the gate to the Boathouse and cycle down for a view on the Loch from the south, before turning back and up to the castle. If lucky we may spot a llama or two, before cycling round the castle and on to the White Lodge, with panoramic views out to the bridges en route.
We'll then head toward the Forth via Linn Mill, before turning back to South Queensferry. We'll take the shared use path bordering the Dalmeny Estate and enter Edinburgh via Cramond Brig, and return to the Meadows via Barnton, the Blackhall and Roseburn Paths and the Roseburn to Union Canal link.
Around 25 miles, the ride is predominantly on off-road and segregated shared use paths and quiet back roads, with two very short sections with fast traffic to access the Dundas Estate from Kirkliston, and Lovers Lane from the access to the Forth Road Bridge.

Usual caveats,

  • keep your meetup status up to date - no shows are barred from the group
  • arrive promptly for the pre ride briefing
  • ensure your bike is safe and in a road worthy condition
  • carry a spare innertube compatible with your bike
  • dress for the weather
