CANCELLED due to HIGH WIND - Duloch Park & Calais Muir Wood
Details
Route map: two options -
- 42mi, descending to St David's via Hillend
- 45mi to visit St Bridget's Kirk (involves pushing bikes around a series of steps in Dalgety Bay Community Woodland)
We'll take a vote on the day when we get to Fordell Firs.
Ride summary:
We'll head across the Forth Road Bridge and climb to and through Rosyth to Duloch Park in Dunfermline. We'll explore the trails in Calais Muir Wood before heading out toward Craigs Plantation and Fordell Firs to run a few more trails. We'll then head back to the bridges along the Fife Coastal Path and Inverkeithing, and retrace our route to the Meadows.
We'll stop for a picnic lunch in either Duloch Park or the Fairy Glen in Calais Muir Wood. If we return via St Bridget's we'll have a second shorter stop to explore its grounds.
The ride is predominantly on off-road and segregated, shared use paths, woodland trails and quiet back roads. We will cycle with urban traffic through Inverkeithing, before a very short section with fast traffic to Lovers Lane from the access to the Forth Road Bridge.
More Info:
Lunch stop within woods - NO FACILITIES nearby.
Bathrooms at: Forth Bridges Visitor Centre & Tesco's near Duloch Park, Dunfermline
OPTIONS TO LEAVE RIDE PARTWAY (will pass by or very close to train station - approximate distance from start):
Rosyth - 16 mi
Dalgety Bay - 25 mi
Inverkeithing - 27.5 / 30 mi
Dalmeny - 32 / 35 mi
Caveat - while this gives the option to shorten your ride you must still be able to cycle up to 20 mi (2-2.5hrs) without a break (beyond the usual catchup on hills and major roads, etc.), as this is the approximate distance to the first scheduled break.
PLEASE NOTE: this route is subject to wind speed - crossing the Forth Road Bridge on a bike at wind speeds over 15-20mph on land can be very uncomfortable, as gusts on the bridge can be close to double that speed and tend to hit crosswise.
If need be the ride will be rescheduled or rerouted.
