Part III: On the Essence of Truth, from Basic Writings by Martin Heidegger
This week we have another selection from Basic Writings by Martin Heidegger. This time it's Part III: On the Essence of Truth.
This chapter dates from the 1930s, as Heidegger was starting to move on from the original ideas in Being & Time. He refers back to Aristotle for his definition of truth as the disclosedness or unconcealing of the world to our experience.
Reading Heidegger isn't easy! That's why it makes sense to tackle him in a group setting - we can all help each other to make sense of the difficult passages, so we're clear about what's going on in the text. Let the unconcealed truth disclose itself!
Who are we?
We're a reading group that welcomes all - young, old, completely new to philosophy or well versed, from keen students to those who've never darkened the door of a lecture room. We read both long & short texts - but you don't need to have been coming from the start of our longer reads. You can dive in at any point along the way.
We usually head to the pub to continue the conversation after our meetings.
