Keiji Nishitani — Religion and Nothingness
Wed 4 Nov
Chapter 1 / section V - Nishitani x Sartre
Pages for this week: section V of ch.1 is where Nishitani responds to Sartre's famous & influential 1946 lecture Existentialism is a Humanism - so let's read & discuss both of them. The Sartre is easy to find online (eg. here: https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/sartre/works/exist/sartre.htm) - best to take a look at that first, and then read the corresponding section in the Nishitani.

If we have time, we can round off the rest of chapter 1 tonight too - if not we'll resume next week.

Who are we?
We're a reading group that welcomes all - young, old, completely new to philosophy or well versed, from keen students to those who've never darkened the door of a lecture room. We read both long & short texts, but you don't need to join at the very start of our longer reads - you can come along at any stage of the journey. Our conversations are lively, wide-ranging & respectful.

We usually head to the pub to continue the discussion after our meetings.
