A varied walk for mid-November.

Starting at Carlops car park (free car park), we will be heading towards then around Newhall estate, which is along some quite farm roads and then around a wood circling a stream, across a couple of fields and back towards the car park. From there, we will cross the road into the Pentlands, towards North Esk Reservoir. From there, we will go around the Reservoir and up the side of Spittal Hill (there will be a short steep climb to get our hearts going) before circling back to the start. We will be crossing a sheep field upon decent, so dogs need to be kept on a lead for this section.

The benefit of the walk is that as being a figure of 8, you can decide to depart half way if you do not fancy the second part of the walk into the Pentlands, you can choose to leave half way.

Distance: c.11km
Elevation Gain: c.300m
Some potentially muddy paths in the first part of the walk, otherwise, well laid out shingle paths. Some parts of the walk is along a country road which is barely used (only by the local farmer and 4 houses), I have only ever encountered 1 car.
There are sheep/cows on the route, but are on the other side of the fence. We will be passing a short section through a sheep field where dogs need to be kept on the lead.

Meeting at Carlops car park at 11am (free parking) and will return after the first section between 12:30 and 1pm (for those who would wish to join the second section). Unfortunately, there are no cafes/pubs in Carlops, so bring a hot drink/food with you.
