What gives our life real meaning?

Many people sense that there must be more to life than simply staying busy, achieving goals, and gaining others’ approval. Even when things are going well outwardly, we can still feel dissatisfaction or be uncertain about our deeper purpose. Buddha’s teachings show that a truly meaningful life does not depend upon external success, praise, or recognition. It depends upon the quality of our mind.

In this four-week course, based on the book Living Meaningfully, Dying Joyfully, we will explore how to create a life that is deeply purposeful from the inside out. We will learn how developing compassion and wisdom can transform otherwise ordinary daily activities into something profoundly meaningful. Through meditation, we can gain a deep understanding of our mind so that we begin to see clearly what actually prevents us from experiencing fulfilment and how to overcome it.

We will explore how our intentions shape our future experiences. Rather than feeling helpless or driven by circumstances, we gain confidence that we can consciously create a beneficial and joyful direction for our life.
A central part of this course is learning how to think about death realistically and positively. Although death is certain, we rarely reflect on it deeply. Buddha taught that remembering death does not make life bleak; instead, it makes it focused, courageous, and meaningful. By preparing well, we can approach the end of our life without fear and with a peaceful, confident heart, as well as benefitting others at the time of their deaths.

Ultimately, this course shows how to develop spiritual confidence so that we ensure that our life is meaningful, has real purpose and that when death comes, we can meet it with joy, free from regrets.
