Join James Tripp and Rowan Ramsay for an in-person investigation into Hellstromism, muscle reading, and somatic subtleties.
This session follows on from our previous exploration of ideodynamics and induced chi flow, continuing the investigation into how attention, responsiveness, expectation, and subtle bodily processes interact in fascinating and often surprising ways.
Across the late 19th and early 20th centuries, mesmerists, mentalists, psychologists, and experimental performers explored unusual demonstrations of heightened responsiveness — particularly the human capacity to detect and respond to subtle muscular cues, shifts in tension, micro-movements, and nonverbal signalling.
In this session, we’ll be stepping into that territory directly.
Rather than treating these phenomena as abstract theories, we’ll approach them experientially through structured exercises, interactive experiments, and embodied exploration.
This event sits right at the heart of what the Edinburgh Hypnosis and Magnetism Explorers Group is about: not merely discussing unusual human phenomena, but engaging with them firsthand.

### What We’ll Be Exploring

  • Muscle reading and unconscious signalling
  • Somatic cue sensitivity
  • Partner responsiveness and nonverbal influence
  • Attention, expectation, and ideodynamic response
  • Contact and non-contact guidance experiments
  • Historical approaches associated with Hellstromism and related practices

Throughout the evening, we’ll be exploring how remarkably subtle bodily processes can become amplified through focused attention and interaction.
Rather than asking:
“What should we believe about this?”
We’ll instead be asking:
“What happens when human attention and responsiveness are engaged in particular ways?”

### What This Is (and Isn’t)

This is not a lecture-only event or a stage performance.
It is a hands-on, participatory exploration where direct experience is central.
We’ll be working at the intersection of:

  • Somatic responsiveness
  • Suggestion and ideodynamics
  • Attention and expectation
  • Nonverbal communication
  • Historical mesmerist and mentalist experimentation

No particular belief system is required. Curiosity, openness, and willingness to explore are far more important than certainty.

### Who It’s For

  • Curious beginners
  • Hypnosis and changework practitioners
  • Coaches, therapists, and facilitators
  • Those interested in mesmerism, ideodynamics, embodied cognition, and subtle human interaction
  • Anyone interested in unusual aspects of human responsiveness and perception

No prior experience is necessary.

### Filming Notice

Portions of this event may be filmed.
You are very welcome to attend if you would prefer not to appear on camera, though you will need to take responsibility for keeping yourself out of shot.
If you are comfortable being filmed, that is absolutely fine too.
