Intelligent Software Development

Details
After an incredibly successful 2nd MeetUp of the year, we plan to see 2023 out with a bang. More pizza, more beers… and more fascinating talks from industry experts!Since our focus has shifted somewhat from the boundaries of mobile development, we are going to rename the meetup ‘Edinburgh Software Dev MeetUp’ to encourage people to discuss everything from AI to Voice, Computer Vision to Digital Biomarkers… as well as Mobile and Web Development.
Our November MeetUp will see: Dan Waghorn address ‘Defensive Development: Preventing Headaches in Production’ Modern mobile applications are complex pieces of engineering. They often consist of a number of distinct components and must be usable across a diverse range of devices, environments, conditions and users. In this talk we'll explore a few techniques and best practices that can be easily adopted to ensure your app continues to function for all users and support your product or service through:
- Robust back-end infrastructure design
- Change tolerant front-ends
- Release planning and impact mitigation
Matt Nicolson and Duncan Lundie will delve into the exploration of leveraging the capabilities of ChatGPT for internal use in there talk 'WaracleGPT: Not-so-open AI'. Their discussion will highlight how integrating this tool can significantly enhance multiple facets of business operations. From automating routine processes and facilitating inquiries to aiding in document summarisation, the internal integration of ChatGPT has the potential to boost efficiency and decision-making across various departments. Additionally, they will briefly touch upon the product side, providing insights into reimagining the future of products and services.
Gary Crawford will be discussing - 'Run-time Intelligence: When Software Understands the User.'
For decades, we’ve crafted digital products that have transformed industries and delighted users. Yet despite their sophistication, these software-enabled creations have lacked true intelligence, executing the rules and constraints we predefined as analysts, designers and engineers at design-time.
However, with breakthroughs in AI, we can now design and build software that behaves more like a human—it can empathise, problem-solve and evolve dynamically to meet user needs. But to do this, our mindset, practices, and processes must evolve too. We must rethink our conventional wisdom and experience to design and build for the new paradigm of run-time digital intelligence. In this talk, Gary will delve into this new frontier with real-world examples, stories from the trenches and practical starting points for your journey into this exciting—albeit daunting—new world.
We look forward to seeing old and new faces alike at Bellfield Brewery.
