Diverse Perspectives - Creating Inclusive Software Solutions

Details
Edinburgh Software Developer Meetup hosts its first event of 2024!
Join us for a meetup on developing and designing for vulnerable users. Explore building inclusive experiences for individuals facing disabilities and mental health challenges.
Learn from our experts as they delve into accessible design, enhancing user experience for physical limitations, cognitive accessibility, and promoting mental well-being through technology. Whether you're a developer, designer, or fascinated by technology, this meetup provides invaluable insights into crafting inclusive digital products. Take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive digital future.
Since it's International Women's Week, we have some excellent female speakers to illustrate the challenges of working with vulnerable users:
Our speakers:
Sharon Dickie - Chief Operating Officer at Waracle
Jenna Maudlin- Co-Founder of The Firefly Project
Jenna, the co-founder of The Firefly Project, an initiative providing creative workshops for children, young individuals, and their caregivers to navigate grief and significant emotions, will be presenting on 'Designing Accessible Experiences For People Coping with Loss and Trauma.' Here are some of the key takeaways you can expect from Jennas talk :
- Embracing a grief-aware and trauma-informed design approach
- Establishing a secure environment for co-designing with vulnerable users
- Exploring how this approach can enhance user experiences for everyone and benefit various products
Lucy Fraser - Head of Innovation at Albyn Housing Society Ltd
Lucy, Head of Innovation at Albyn Housing and lead on their FitHome project, will be talking about what innovative technology can do to support vulnerable citizens at a time when public sector funding is tightening and carers are hard to access. Albyn has been developing a sensoring technology project aimed at sustaining frail, vulnerable and elderly people in their own homes for as
long as it is safe for them to be there. Partnerships and joint working are fundamental to their delivery. Lucy will be presenting “Developing accessible infrastructure for vulnerable clients at
scale”.
Key takeaways will include:-
- Which use cases to target
- What does partnership look like at this level
- Why it all comes back to the front-line delivery
We look forward to seeing old and new faces alike at Bellfield Brewery.
