ABOUT THE SESSION
Boards make some of the most important decisions in any organisation – but what do they actually do and how do they do it? How do you join one? And what makes a good non-exec board member?

This interactive and informative workshop brings together experienced non-executive directors (NEDs) and curious professionals to explore what it means to govern rather than manage, why good governance matters, and how diverse voices strengthen decision-making at the top.

It'll be super relevant and interesting if you're curious about organisational leadership and steering, or if you're considering becoming a trustee or NED yourself.

In this session we will:

• Learn the basics – what “corporate governance”, “boards” and “non-executive roles” really mean
• Hear real experiences – from current NEDs about the highs, lows, and lessons learned
• Explore in small groups – what values, behaviours, and perspectives make great board members
• Reflect personally – on what you could bring to a board and what you might gain
• Discover pathways – to finding and applying for your first board or trustee role

Whether you’re curious about contributing your skills beyond your day job, want to understand how boards shape organisations, or simply want to explore a new dimension of leadership, this session will leave you informed and inspired.
