What we’re about

Curious chats. Kind debate. Zero homework.

We’re building a laid-back philosophy club for people who like big ideas without the heavy robes: no point-scoring, no intellectual flexing, no reading lists. We lean toward absurdism, hypotheticals, paradoxes, language games, and the fun side of thinking. If dense prose makes you yawn, you’re our people.

Why this group exists (right now):

This page is to galvanise interest and find our regulars. Once we’ve got a core of people, we’ll lock a weekly or bi-weekly slot at a quiet pub/bar in central Edinburgh and post the details. For now, RSVP here so we can gauge numbers and pick the best night/location.

What we will do in our meetings (format):

One prompt to start (a philosophical statement or question).
We define the terms together and come to agreement on definitions (plain English), then let the chat wander and overlap wherever it wants.
Laughter welcome; seriousness optional.

House rules (the only serious bit):

Be kind. Ideas are fair game; people aren’t.
Share airtime. If you’ve spoken a lot, pass the mic.
Explain simply. No jargon or verbal diarrhea without clarification.

Scope & boundaries (secular focus):

This club is secular and stays in the lane of everyday reasoning, language games, hypotheticals, and humour. It’s not a space for religious apologetics, scripture study, spiritual coaching, mysticism, astrology, paranormal claims, or “revealed truths.”
You can be personally religious and still be very welcome—just frame contributions in public, non-theological terms (no appeals to revelation/authority).
If a discussion drifts into theology/spiritualism, we’ll gently steer it back to our secular brief.

Who it’s for:
The curious, the shy, the lapsed readers, the overthinkers, the improv-minded—anyone who wants to have fun while thinking.

Practical bits (for now):

When/where: TBC — we’ll choose a central Edinburgh pub/bar once numbers are clear.
Cost: Free; when we meet in person, please support the venue with a drink/snack.
Accessibility: message if you have needs we should plan for.

Next step: Hit Join and answer the quick question in the discussion tab (preferred night and area). When we hit critical mass, we’ll post the first meetup with the venue and start time.
Message me with any questions or queries.
