What we're about

Edinburgh Photography for Health & Wellbeing Group (FREE)

Hi, I'm David, a photographer, tour-guide & nature-lover living in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I passionately believe in the health benefits and improved wellbeing that a love of photography can bring and have created this group for anyone who's interested in photography, would like to make new friends and improve their health along the way.
You can find out more about me on my website & YouTube channel - www.adventuresinscotland.uk
www.youtube.com/c/DavidWheaterScotland

Relax, meet new people, improve your health & wellbeing and have some fun along the way. All beginners & hobbyists very welcome. Tuition will be provided (for those who'd like it) and all camera types and mobiles phones are welcome.

Location: Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh & other beautiful Venues around Edinburgh
Times: 1pm - 3pm / last Sunday of the month - 2022
Cost: This is an entirely Free event, but a very small donation to costs would be much appreciated if you can afford it :-)
Suitablity: Beginners, hobbyists and anyone wishing to learn photography to improve their health & wellbeing. Photography tuition will be provided for those who’d like it. I'm also happy to stay on, after each meeting, to teach theory and photographing in manual-mode for those who'd like to learn and get more creative control of their camera.
Joining: New members must provide a recently taken profile picture, clearly showing the members face, and require host approval before joining.

Please join me on one of the following dates (below), during 2022, for a relaxing photo walk around the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and other beautiful locations around Edinburgh. Places are limited to 6 people and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. This small number of people is to allow you to really get to know each other.

The idea of the walk is to meet new people in a relaxed, informal way, improve your health & wellbeing and to improve your photography skills along the way. If you'd like to stay on afterwards, to learn some theory and shooting in manual-mode, you're very welcome and this is also free.

All camera types are suitable, including mobile phones. You do not need a fancy or expensive camera to enjoy this group or photography! My hobby cameras are a thirty year old film camera, a ten year old 7D and an iphone 12. I love all of them, so just bring what you have and be proud of it :-)

Please only reserve a place if you are absolutely sure you can commit to the day.

It's absolutely essential that the group is a positive, uplifting and enjoyable experience for everybody and I would kindly ask that everyone who joins agrees to abide by the following principles:

  • Please be kind, positive and friendly at all times. You never know what someone is going through - so treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.
  • This group must be a safe and respectful environment for everyone. Please show respect and courtesy to all involved, at all times. The host reserves the right to ask anyone behaving aggressively, or causing upset or offence, to leave meetings and may be blocked from the group.
  • Be encouraging and kind to all members. It doesn't matter what camera you have, or how much photography knowledge you have. A few kindly words of encouragement and support can really make someone's day :-)
  • Only RSVP to meetings if you've checked your diary is free and you can definitely attend. The group is run by volunteers and it's very disheartening when members forget to cancel or don't turn up. Members who RSVP more than twice and don't formally cancel or turn up will be excluded from the next event. We don't ever want to exclude anyone, but would be grateful for everyone to let us know when they can't attend.
  • This is NOT a sales networking event. Please join for companionship and peer support & friendship, not to make sales or gain new customers. The primary focus of this group is on improving wellbeing & health, through friendly conversation & supportive friendships.
  • Please keep in mind that these events are run by volunteers, who are giving up their time for free.

I really look forward to meeting you and if there's sufficient interest, we can hopefully grow to allow more people to connect and get to know each other.

Best wishes,
David Wheater LLB(Hons) DipLp
