Hermitage of Braid to Calton Hill Linear Stroll

Join me for a stroll entirely within the city of Edinburgh making use of some of the city's finest green spaces linked by quiet pleasant urban environments.

First we will enter the Hermitage of Braid park from Braid Road and walk eastward then up into the paths surrounding Blackford Hill and pass by Blackford Pond. Then through the Braid area of suburbia and up through Marchmont to the south side of the Meadows. Across the Meadows we shall stroll along tree lined avenues to Chalmers Street and up to Lauriston Place passing the impressive red sandstone edifice of the Art College. We will pass down the Vennel into the historic Grassmarket and up the other side to Johnstone Terrace beneath the Castle. We will finally pass along the length of Princes Street Gardens and then up onto the summit of Calton Hill.

Distance is about 5 miles entirely on well surfaced paths so sensible comfortable everyday walking shoes/trainers should be sufficient but please dress appropriate to Scotland's December climate. Bring snacks and drinks to keep you going, we will probably pause at some point to refresh. Further for those who wish, alas not me as I have work, we can can seek a pub/cafe for post stroll refreshment.
