With the nights drawing in and winter on its way, it’s the perfect time to embrace all that this season brings — cosy evenings, warm drinks, soft rugs, glowing fires, and an evening of storytelling.

We’re delighted to welcome back storyteller Alette Willis for another inspiring night of stories — or more accurately, Re-storying the Earth.

Author, podcaster, PhD, PDC, Permaculture Diploma holder, Senior Lecturer and Chancellor’s Fellow in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Applied Social Science at the University of Edinburgh, Alette brings a rich mix of scholarship, creativity, and ecological insight to her storytelling.

Originally from Canada, Alette explores how stories — oral, creative, and performative — can become tools for environmental awareness, nature connection, and social transformation. Through her work, she helps us shift the narratives that shape our relationship with the natural world, teaching “life-stories” that connect people to place, nature, and our more-than-human kin.

For Alette, stories are not just entertainment, but ethical and decision-making tools — shaping who we are, how we live, and how we respond to the challenges of our time. Join us for an evening of Restorying the Earth.

More about the Permaculture Community Classroom ...

Interested in permaculture, but don't know how to get more hands-on? Put off by the cost and commitment of full design courses? Want to find a space to explore, share and learn about all different aspects of this weird thing 'permaculture'? The Permaculture Community Classroom is the answer to all of these!

We host fortnightly online meetings and a lively WhatsApp group where everyone is invited to share their knowledge and learn from each other.

From time to time, we organise group visits to permaculture projects and other events in and around Edinburgh, where we can experience permaculture in practice. If you would like to give a talk, organise an event, or get support for your project, put it out there and see if anyone can help! We also have a library (in Edinburgh) with a small collection of permaculture-related books that members can borrow.

In this classroom we are all both teachers and students, and we work on the principle that we can all learn from each other. While it helps to have some idea of what permaculture is about, you don't have to be an 'expert' to join us and contribute to the discussion
