UX Edinburgh x People, Planet, Pint™: Sustainability Meetup

Details
For our first partnership event of 2024, we are excited to team up with People, Planet, Pint™. Come and join us at Bellfield Brewery for an afternoon of short talks and lively discussion on sustainability and design.
See below for details of our fantastic speakers & talks for this event!
Brendan Hill
Sustainability is fundamentally neither a technological nor economic problem, but one of human motivation and behaviour, a challenge Brendan has long studied. An academic and former broadcast journalist, he co-founded one of Scotland’s earliest web retailers, and has worked on change in organisations tiny and huge. He is currently obsessing about stealthily reducing emissions of the worst-performing sector, mobility.
Brendan will talk about 'dark patterns' (deceptive user interfaces that trick people into do things they wouldn't otherwise do), questioning whether we can flip the script and use such evil powers for good.
Kelsie Murphy
Kelsie studied music teaching at university, before deciding to switch careers and become a software engineer with a focus on User Experience and sustainability.
Kelsie will talk about tracking website carbon emissions, developing websites and web applications with sustainability in mind, and the impact of user experience when it comes to reducing emissions.
Adam Bastock
Adam is the founder of Small99. Small99™ is helping small businesses to take positive action to reduce their carbon footprint to become more sustainable and profitable.
Adam will talk about building the product, the impact of focusing on community, and how focusing on human, not digital, was what ultimately lead to growth.
Michael Haigney
Michael is always ahead of the curve on the topics that matter to the UX community presenting several times at UX Edinburgh since he moved to Scotland in 2017 . Certifed in UX, Agile, Project management and computing he brings a combination of expertise & experience, over 20 years in the field, working with large multi-nationals, startups and everything in-between across many industries including, FMCG, digital marketing, retail, banking, finance, pensions, aviation, tourism, food, recruitment, engineering, healthcare & government.
