Design is Political – Working in a Political Environment
In this session, I’ll reflect on how ‘Design is Political’ and share insights from working in user research across 10+ government departments. I’ll explore what it’s like to work in a political environment, where decisions affect people’s lives, trade-offs are constant, and design is never truly neutral. I’ll share a real example of collaborating with policy and delivery teams, navigating constraints, and keeping user needs central and tips on what to do when things don’t go the users way.
This talk is for anyone working in or curious about government and user research.
