You're welcome to join me on a varied and challenging walk in the Pentlands.

From the bus terminus we walk up to Threipmuir reservoir, up the beech grove, then onwards up the red road, past the foot of West Kip, then up, over and down to Ninemileburn. We then go along to Carlops and turn to go past Patie's Hill, North Esk reservoir and up to the Borestane. From there we continue back to Bavelaw and back down to Threipmuir reservoir. We take a side route along to Harlaw visitor centre, then turn up and round Cock Rig, heading for Kirkgate and down into Currie, where a well-earned drink at the Riccarton Inn will await.

Distance: approx. 17 miles/27 kilometres.

Getting to the start: it is possible to park on the street near to the Cockburn Crescent, Balerno bus terminus and you can leave the walk a bit early in order to return there. Lothian bus no.44 goes from York Place right to the terminus/starting point.
If you come by car, you may prefer to park at the car park at Threipmuir reservoir, there by cutting out the walk up the road from Balerno. We will pass by the entrance to that car park en route. If you choose this option, please let me know, so we can look out for you.

I plan to have a leisurely lunch break in Carlops, stopping at the Allan Ramsay Hotel, where food and drink will be available.

As always, walking boots, waterproofs, food and drink are essential. If the recent hot weather looks like continuing, please bring more water or juice than you might normally.

No member of the group can be held responsible for any accident or mishap experienced on this walk. By signing-up for this walk, you are understood to have accepted the above conditions.

Please do not bring a dog.
