From Roslin to the Meadows- a Walk from the Outskirts to the City Centre

We start our walk at the Original Rosslyn Hotel in Roslin and walk along the Roslin Shawfair Railway path. After underpassing the bypass we soon leave that path and walk towards Gilmerton. Passing through Burdiehouse we change over to Mortonhall where we walk along outside the cemetary. Around Mortonhal Caravan Park and the Stable bar we follow the path towards Braid Hill, we climb the summit on the path betwen two Golf courses, then descend down to the Hermitage of Braids, just to ascend twards Blackford Hill. Descending on the north side we take a quiet road through the Grange and Blackford, then Marchmont to finally reach the Meadows in the City centre

Requirements: a substantial good level of fitness is required for this 16 km km/10mi walk .

Distance: ca up to 16 km /10 mi

Total time: ca 4. hours plus breaks (or as long as it takes )

Terrain: tarmac , gravel paths, grass paths, muddy paths, some steep sections

Clothing: waterproof walking boots with good grip, all weather clothing, waterproofs,

Food /drink: bring a packed lunch and sufficient water to avoid dehydration,

Dogs: well behaved dogs are welcome, but bring a short lead with you, we share our path on some parts with , other dog walkers, cyclists, joggers and cars..

Getting there : Lothian Bus 37 and Eastcoast bus 140 bring you to the starting point, 37 from Queensferry St (09.39) Southbridge (09.51) bus will arrive at 10.37) and 140 from Musselburgh (9.51)
Coming back: we are in the City centre
