Beecraig Country Park, Cockleroy, Muiravonside from Linlithgow

Join me for this walk from Linlithgow train station up to Beecraig Country Park, around Beecraig's Loch, through woodlands up to Cockleroy, then along Lochcote Reservoir down to the River Avon Heritage Trail. At Muiravonside we can check on the animals, if their number has increased since we were there the last time. Along the Union Canal , over the River Avon Aquaduct we return to Linlithgow for the bus or train back to Edinburgh
Requirements: a substantial good level of fitness is required for this walk
Distance: ca up to 21 km /13 mi

Total time: ca 5 to 5.5 hours plus breaks (or as long as it takes )

Terrain: tarmac , gravel paths, grass paths, muddy paths, some short steep sections

Clothing: waterproof walking boots with good grip, all weather clothing, waterproofs,

Food /drink: bring a packed lunch and sufficient water to avoid dehydration,

Dogs: well behaved dogs are welcome, but bring a short lead with you, we share our path on some parts with sheep, livestock, deer, frogs and toads, other dog walkers, cyclists, joggers and cars.. BE AWARE THAT THE LAMBING SEASON HAS STARTED A WHILE AGO....

Getting there :Scotrail train leaving 10.05 Waverley brings you right in time to the starting point (10.28), (I'll join at Haymarket) . Alternatively, you may take Bluebird Midland's X38 bus from Princes Street leaving 09.06 arriving 10.13 in Linlithgow (5 min walk up to the railway stn.)
Coming back: just reverse your travel of the morning (train every 15 min, bus every 20 min)
