River Tweed, Leader Water, SUW from Tweedbank

Details

We start at the Tweedbank Railway station and walk towards Melrose following the shore of River Tweed, we leave Melrose on our righthand side and proceed along the river but in Newstead we have to leave the shore and take the path through the ancient Roman basecamp of Trimontium (http://roman-britain.co.uk/places/newstead.htm). We cross River Tweed over the old bridge between the disused railway bridge and the new streetbridge and take the path upstream along Leader Water . Soon we reach Earlston. We walk through the village and use the public toilets (30p), if necessary, and leave it in westerly direction on a minor road. Very soon we take a farmtrack, slightly going uphill. Eventually we hit the Southern Upland Way which we follow in southern direction all the way down to the River Tweed, where we leave this way to head towards Tweedbank Railway Station for the train back to Edinburgh
