Four Reservoirs (hilly)
Details
Please RSVP only if you intend to come and put the date in your diary so you don't forget! We have had a lot of no-shows and last minute cancellations, meaning that other Belles can't ride.
• DIFFICULTY: Harder due to the climb (just under 2000 feet or 600m) but an excellent and glorious challenge for those who are not quite as in love with hills as I am ;)
• DISTANCE: 31 miles (50 km) with about 2000 ft (600 m) climbing
• SURFACE: mixture of path, rural road, quieter city streets. Some surfaces a bit muddy or uneven.
• BIKE: Hybrid, Cross or MTB. No road bike tyres please on account of mixed surfaces.
• ROUTE: This is a longer and extended loop of the Pentlands reservoir ride. Now there are four reservoirs, an estuary and two country parks to enjoy...
Here's the map! (https://www.strava.com/routes/6104920)
*****NOTE - I've still to recce this so route might change a wee bit. *****
Join Claire and Trish on this loop around the west of the city and into the hills. We'll start at the cricket huts in Roseburn Park, quickly connecting with the Water of Leith path and then through Bonaly. We'll cross the city bypass and head into the Pentlands, passing by the Torduff, Cubbiedean, Harlaw and Threipmuir reservoirs. We can stop for a quick refreshment at the Vanilla Pod mobile van, before the downhill into Balerno.
From there it's a cut through Heriot Watt and Gogar to get to the rural roads of Cammo. Who knows how much longer we'll be able to enjoy this area before it gets built on. We'll then make our way down to Cramond, where we can stop either at the Cramond Inn or Cramond Falls cafe for food.
The final leg is along the Silverknowes esplanade, where we join up with the waterfront development at Granton and then take the north Edinburgh path network back to Roseburn. LOVELY!
Don't Forget:
• Appropriate clothes for the day - layers are best. Will you need sunscreen or gloves?
• Spare inner tube
• Snacks and water
• Money for lunch/cake :-)
IMPORTANT: If there is a forecast for atrocious weather, the ride will be cancelled/postponed - please check the Meetup site before setting off in the morning!
