Daunder to Queensferry

Details

Join Barbara and Jo for our tried and tested ride out to Queensferry.

Distance: 25 miles
Difficulty: Intermediate
Type of Bike: Hybrid/Gravel Mountain Bike. (Skinny tyres not recommended unless you are experienced and confident with some gravel.)
Surface: Mostly paved paths and roads, some gravel through the Dalmeny Estate.
Route: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/5118442771/

Description:
Starting at the Shore opposite Mimi's Bakehouse, we will head on to the North Edinburgh Path Network towards Craigleith, where we turn on to the Blackhall path to Silverknowes.

From Silverknowes, we follow NCN Route 1 on quiet roads through Barnton to the Miller Carter Steak House (Crammond Brigg). We take the shared path to the second entrance into the Dalmeny Estate - country lanes, closed to public vehicles, so minimal Estate traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. Through the estate we are in lovely countryside, with great views across the Forth taking us into Queensferry - there is a section of very rough gravel paths here.

We'll stop here for a break and cuppa (either at the seafront or in one of the cafes depending on the weather and group).

A short section of road takes us to a cut through up a wee hill to join another Shared path through Queensferry to Dalmeny Village. We are on the road again here for a short section, before joining the cycle path along the A90, which brings us back to the Miller and Carter.

Crossing back over the Almond we have another short section of road to Crammond, where we take the Prom all the way along to West Shore Road, another short road section sees us join the Newhaven path at Granton Square, and we then join the path network back to our start point.

PLEASE update your RSVP as soon as you can to let us know if you can no longer make it if you have a place or if you are on the waiting list. This gives someone else who can make it reasonable notice when they are moved from waitlist to going.

Whilst September can be pretty good weather wise, if there is a forecast for atrocious weather, the ride will be cancelled/postponed or amended. Please check the Meetup site before setting off in the morning!

WHAT TO BRING ON THE RIDE
• Spare inner tubes (right size for your tyres)
• Water
• Packed lunch/ money / card (for takeaway food)
