Derrick Guild, a prominent member of the Royal Scottish Academy, is an artist whose work often reflects on and relates to art history. Seeing the past as an open rather than closed system, Guild often reconfigures historic artworks and art practices to create a fluidity between past and present. His works are contemporary and classical, surreal and representational, philosophical and comic, dark and light. In recent years Derrick has created a body of work in response to Alan Ramsay’s portraits of David Hume, the work derived impetus and creative fuel from Hume’s ideas around self and identity. Derrick's talk will be around all aspects of his work, with a large section devoted to Hume.

The meeting will be chaired by Cathy Crawford.
