Details
A place to live, a space to thrive. How Harmeny Education Trust supports children and young people to manage childhood trauma, build life skills and unlock their potential.
Speaker: Alison Acosta
Harmeny Education Trust is a Scottish charity based in Balerno which provides care and education for young people impacted by early years trauma. In this talk Alison will cover the impact of early years trauma on childhood development and emotional regulation and how Harmeny has developed its environment, approach to learning and care to help children manage their trauma and thrive.
The talk will also touch on Scotland’s national commitment to children in care through ‘The Promise’ which was launched in February 2020 and the importance of seeing the child rather than the system to ensure that all children in Scotland have the opportunities they need to achieve their potential.
Alison Acosta joined Harmeny in 2019 as Fundraising and Communications Manager to co-ordinate Harmeny’s £3.2m capital fundraising appeal to extend their services and support up to age 18. Alison has 19 years’ experience of fundraising and is passionate about ensuring charities have the support and resources they need to fulfil their vital role in society.
The meeting will be chaired by Jim Chalmers.
