Soccer for Absolute Beginners (Outdoor)

Are you interested in soccer but doubt your skills and/or never played before in your life? Do you come from a European or South American background where soccer was part of your identity growing up, but now stuck in Edmonton where everyone is talking about the Oilers? Do you have a fear that if you try to play, very aggressive 20 year olds may kick the ball straight to your face? Do you want to brush up your passing or ball control skills, without having to run for a full hour?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider joining us for friendly practice and/or a casual match.

This is a *beginner* event. If you have played soccer before, you are very welcome to join, but we ask that you refrain from any type of intense or aggressive playing, and be extra considerate of other players. Our goal is to exercise, have fun, and meet other people who enjoy the sport. Score will not be tracked, and the winners will be all the people who had fun. Any type of aggressive or competitive behavior has no place in this event and will not be tolerated.

We will have the field available to ourselves for a bit over an hour. We will spend the first 30 minutes practicing and meeting each other, then decide whether we'll have a full match or continue practice. If we play a match, it will be very casual, and you will have the opportunity to rest whenever you need to (you will not need to be running around for the full hour). While we will be very accommodating, only you know your physical condition and we ask you take it into consideration. Soccer can be an intense sport, even though we will do our best to keep it casual.

Please bring soccer shoes and comfortable clothing. We strongly recommend having both a dark and a light shirt available to change into (preferably black and white). That way we can distinguish teams if needed.

You must be at least 18 years old to attend this event.

As this event will be held outdoors, it is subject to cancellation if the weather is not cooperating.

Instructions for how to find us will be posted on the event discussion board, around 15 minutes before the event start time.

This event is completely free. We may need to charge for future events to cover the cost of the field, especially if we later move to a bigger field.
