Trans Talks, hosted by the Edmonton LGBTQ Meetup, is a monthly online presentation that will provide tools, debunk transphobic myths, and offer hope to the Trans Community in Edmonton and the rest of Alberta.

Bekah Marcellus (she/they) is a proud member of the 2SLGBTQIAP+ Community who grew up in St. Albert, where she now works with the Outloud Foundation. Since joining Outloud, she has started several new groups for youth and parents and has taken over running several others. When not running programming or speaking in schools, she spends her time planning events like St. Albert Pride (which saw approximately 5000 people attend this year), doing media appearances to spread awareness, facilitating workshops on inclusivity, allyship, and privilege, and building relationships with community stakeholders to increase the number of safer spaces for Outloud’s youth. She also produces and hosts Outloud’s podcast Queer Halftime, which explores various topics and has had several wonderful guests, including artists, historians, politicians, and activists.

The social environment is becoming hostile towards the trans community, and it has been targeting trans-diverse families. Social media is becoming littered with anti-trans sentiment, and the news feeds us report after report about the suppression of trans rights. This fact can be terrifying for the gender-diverse family, especially knowing that there are leaders in our home province who seek to harm us!

If you are a parent in a gender-diverse family, an educator, a healthcare professional, or simply a concerned ally, this presentation is for you!
