Abstract:
Desktop development was historically a strength for .NET, but Microsoft has struggled to move developers onto their latest offerings. Meanwhile, open-source frameworks have long been closing the gap, just as Microsoft has merged its desktop and mobile offerings into one platform. I hope to give an overview for those considering .NET for desktop development, as for the first time in nearly 20 years the choice is not so obvious.
