YEGRUG: Futureverse - A Unifying Parallelization Framework in R for Everyone

Details

At our May 2023 meetup, Henrik Bengtsson, author of the future R package will talk about the futureverse (https://futureverse.org). How the future package came to be, what problems it solves, and what the future of the future looks like.

The future framework makes it easy to parallelize existing R code - often with only a minor change of code. The goal is to lower the barriers so that anyone can safely speed up their existing R code in a worry-free manner.

Henrik has a MSc in Computer Science and a PhD in Mathematical Statistics. He is an associate professor at the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and affiliated with the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is also a member of the R Foundation - a non-profit organization that supports the R Project, its continued development of the R language, and the R community around it.

Read the paper: Bengtsson 2021. “A Unifying Framework for Parallel and Distributed Processing in R using Futures.” The R Journal. https://journal.r-project.org/archive/2021/RJ-2021-048/index.html.

Hope to see you all!
