Games for Learning and Social Causes

Join us for an informative and entertaining event as three local education and social gaming entrepreneurs demo their games and discuss how they are being used inside the classroom or to further social causes. The event will be moderated by a Senior Lecturer from the College of Education & Human Development at the University of Minnesota.

· Adam Gordon (Director of Educational Outreach for Andamio Games (http://andamiogames.com/index.html)) will demo iNeuron (http://andamiogames.com/overview.html) (teaches neuroscience concepts while students collaborate to solve challenges)

· Eric Nelson (high school social studies teacher and founder) will demo Fantasy Geopolitics (http://www.fantasygeopolitics.com/) (think “fantasy football for social studies and literacy standards”)

· Elizabeth Sarquis (founder of Global Gaming Initiative (http://globalgaminginitiative.com/)) will demo Sidekick Cycle (http://globalgaminginitiative.com/our-projects/sidekick-cycle/) (raises awareness of the positive impact bikes can make in impoverished communities AND supports World Bicycle Relief)

· Terrence Wyberg (Senior Lecturer, STEM at CEHD at U of MN) will moderate the discussion and review some examples of how games are being used to enhance math education.
