CS education in Austin: A community town hall

Details

Being exposed to computer science is critical for our students, regardless of whether they eventually choose it as a major or occupation. Unfortunately, the reality in Austin today is that accessibility to opportunities varies widely across schools in our community. Together, we as teachers, administrators, local industry, parents and students share the common challenge of addressing this gap. For this month’s meeting we’re bringing together stakeholders across the spectrum to discuss the current state of CS education, and will begin to chart a course that we can strive towards collaboratively to help make Austin one of the best cities in the country for CS and STEM education.

Expect this to be a highly interactive working session with discussion and brainstorming. You have valuable ideas and perspectives, and we want to hear them!

Agenda:
6:30 - 6:50 - Welcome and announcements
6:50 - 7:10 - Presentations from the community
7:10 - 7:30 - Brainstorm + break-out: Defining our goals, challenges, and solutions
7:30 - 7:50 - Share successes and frustrations: What help do you need, and how can you help!
7:50 - 8:00 - Wrap-up and planning next steps/action items
8:00 - 9:00 - Open networking and discussion

We'll be providing snacks and soft drinks to keep brains firing on all cylinders.

See you there!

Thanks,

The EdTech Austin Team
