1. An introduction to problem solving with R

Sina Rüeger is currently finishing her PhD in Statistical Genetics at the Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland. With a background in data analysis, applied statistics and engineering she has analysed data from various domains in R. And as an enthusiastic R user she is always keen to talk about her favourite tool and explain why it is awesome (and ideally win over new users ;-).

R is a programming software tailored for statistical computing and data science.
Sina will speak about the kinds of problems that can be solved with R, ways to learn R and how the R community can help you with that.

2. Human Rights Meets Women In STEM

Ellen Walker is an international human rights lawyer with a serious passion for empowering rights holders to know their own rights, and how to claim them. She studied law in Geneva and Michigan and have 10+ years of human rights experience. Experienced in UN advocacy and multilateral negotiations, Ellen loves facilitating connections between people who need things changed, and people who can work with them to change those things. She believes that STEM and human rights fields suffer from the same public perception as something far-off and unattainable, and that mutual capacity-building can be beneficial for all. Ellen is pretty excited to be working to reduce inequalities for women and among countries while also learning to play with robots.

At Geek Girls Carrots, she’ll present RightsTech Women, a Swiss, non-profit association dedicated to advancing the human rights of women and girls in STEM.

3. SMART OFFICE: From Building automation to space optimization!

Marjorie Rojas is an electronic engineer passionate about functional design (in all areas), specialized in technical project management (Colombia) and Industrial maintenance management (Venezuela and Spain). Since 2016, she is co-founder of Plus EngineerINN S.L (PlusINN), an engineering consulting firm (Malaga, Spain) working on access control, logistics and traceability solutions based on RFID technologies. In parallel, she is developing her own concept related to the management, optimization and metamorphosis of spaces: « Smart Interior Styling ».
She is also part of the steering committee for the Smart Buildings Alliance for Smart Cities (Swiss chapter).

Smart cities for smart citizens: It’s all about creating, recreating or adapting our society in order to improve our quality of life.
Measurement is the foundation for management. Sensing, collecting and sharing information for various purposes with different stakeholders, encourage the rational use of spaces, energy consumption and time! Work is a big portion of our daily time. Nowadays, careers based on talents, nomad workers, autonomous co-workers, robots and horizontal organizations are emerging. « The office » or our workplace (company, coworking space, home…) has to be our place for creativity, inspiration and happiness, the place where productivity and efficiency come together with collective intelligence! Our world is made of numbers, codes, data and ENERGY. This is a reflexion about the real world and how digital ecosystems should improve our Physical Ecosystem: THE EARTH.
