BIO:
Our speaker this month is Amanda Bennett. Amanda (she/her) is Digital Defense Fund’s project manager. Digital Defense Fund providers digital security and technology support to the abortion access movement in the US. Before joining the team at DDF, Amanda was the case manager at Jane’s Due Process, helping young people navigate the Texas judicial bypass process. She volunteers for the Bridge Collective, which helps Central Texans access reproductive health resources including emergency contraception, pregnancy tests, and abortion. When she’s not doing abortion work, she’s most likely exploring local craft breweries or reading a novel!
TALK SUMMARY:
With the provision of abortion being completely criminalized in Texas, how can technology help keep people seeking abortion safe? Using examples drawn from people who have already been criminalized for having abortions, this talk will discuss how digital evidence is used in abortion criminalization cases, and how people can keep themselves and their communities safe while accessing abortions.
