BIO:
Our speaker this month is Shane Rusing. Shane is an attorney and founder based in Austin. He’s passionate about the First Amendment, online speech, and utilizing technological solutions to help preserve digital liberties. His current projects focus on decentralized social protocols and DAO’s. In his free time, you can find him playing soccer, pickleball, or lounging at one of Austin’s many spring fed pools.
TALK SUMMARY:
Between SESTA/FOSTA, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upholding Texas' HB 20 in Netchoice v. Paxton, and the Supreme Court deciding Gozalez v. Google this term, Section 230 seems as distant as that small town in your rearview driving through west Texas. Please join EFF-Austin and Attorney Shane Rusing for a discussion on all things Section 230 and online speech. We’ll cover the latest in state and federal legislation as well as the implications of Musk’s Twitter bid. Lastly, we’ll touch on decentralized protocols and some of the technological solutions that hope to alleviate the stranglehold “big tech” has over internet users.
