Introduction to Effective Altruism

Details

What if you could help stop the next pandemic? Or tackle other pressing problems like climate change, mass incarceration, nuclear war, global poverty, transformative AI, or pandemic risk?

Effective Altruism (EA) is a growing new social movement that tries to answer the question of how we can use our resources and career to help others the most. For more information about effective altruism, we recommend the TED talk and article linked below.

At Effective Altruism Madison, we want to dive into these ideas with you:

  • Where can we do the most good?
  • How do we translate this into action?

Making a difference is important to us, so we think it’s worth spending time trying to figure out how to do it most effectively. Join us in discussions, speaker events, socials, charitable giving games, and more.

The EA Madison group at the University of Wisconsin - Madison will be hosting an informational meeting on April 19th from 5-6 PM CST via the Zoom link below. As the EA Madison "City Group" we will be joining them for several of their events.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to EA Madison co-organizers Emma at Emilia.M.Cameron@Gmail.com, Hollis at HollisJB@Protonmail.ch, or Mary at MMWang@Wisc.edu.
