What we’re about
Effective Altruism (EA) Munich started in 2015 and hosts socials, intro talks, workshops and fellowship groups to promote creating a better world. We're a mixed group of students (mainly LMU and TUM) and professionals from different backgrounds.
About Effective Altruism:
Effective Altruism is a growing social movement and philosophy centered on the idea of using evidence and reason to do the most good you can in the world. If you're looking to maximize the positive impact you have with your limited resources, this is the group to join. For further information, check out the EA Germany website: effektiveraltruismus.de/en/introduction
Our Munich group started back in October 2015 and since then we have kept busy. In our meetups we discuss modern aspects of philosophy, economy and psychology, and discuss how we can apply them to help others as much as possible. We organize fundraisers to support the most outstanding charitable organizations in the world, and we work to bring the ideas of Effective Altruism to the public eye.
Whether you already self-identify as an effective altruist or you want to learn more about the movement's ideas and actions, we'd love for you to join us.

See all- Community Dinner - Slack Matters More Than Any Outcome - Wed 2025/08/20Teamwork, München
What if your attempts to improve your life, through discipline, optimization, or “just trying harder”, are actually feeding the very structure that’s keeping you stuck?
This month’s discussion centers on Valentine's “Slack Matters More Than Any Outcome”, a powerful post that explores addiction, inner conflict, adaptive entropy, and the idea that letting go might be more generative than pushing through.
We’ll read, eat, and unpack:- What exactly is adaptive entropy?
- Is "force" ever a useful strategy?
- What does it mean to earn trust from your subagents?
- What happens when we stop outcome-fixating—and listen instead?
This isn’t a self-help session, though it might end up feeling like one. Expect deep takes, introspective tangents, and a few disagreements on what it even means to “accomplish” something.
