The 10% Pledge and Ethical Decision-Making

Many people think that Effective Altruism is all about donating money to effective charities. While this is largely a misconception, there is now a large community of people who have pledged to donate at least 10% of their income to whatever organizations turn out to do the most good. In the first part of our meetup we will discuss what is driving thousands of (mostly very young) people worldwide to make this lifelong commitment, and what this decision entails.

In the second part of our meetup we will talk about different processes behind ethical decision-making: what do we mean when someone says that we “should” help others, or that suffering is morally bad? These are important questions given how many ideas behind

Effective Altruism force us to constantly make ethical judgments about our actions.

The talks will be in English. Afterwards we will have time for discussions and questions, and we will offer drinks and vegan snacks.

Everyone is welcome to join, independently of how familiar you are with Effective Altruism. We're always happy to see new faces! Feel free to bring friends along.
