EA Meetup With Talks

Dear friends of Effective Altruism,

We are excited to invite you to our next monthly meet-up!

Our guest will be Kevin Esvelt who has prepared a 19-minute video on Migitating Catastrophic Biorisk. After the talk, Kevin will join us live for a Q&A. Kevin earned his PhD in molecular biology at MIT in 2013 and has been working on pandemics since then.

The description of the talk:

"In a world now painfully aware of pandemics, and with ever-increasing
access to autonomous biological agents, how can we help channel society’s
response to COVID-19 to minimize the risk of deliberate misuse? Using the
challenge of securing DNA synthesis as an example, Kevin Esvelt outlines
the key norms and incentives governing biotechnology, lays out potential
strategies for reform, and suggests ways in which thoughtful individuals
might safely and credibly discuss and mitigate biorisks without spreading
information hazards."

Just as in the previous months, the meet-up will take place online via video conference at https://meet.ealokal.de/EffectiveAltruismMunich

We will leave out the introductory talk and dive directly into the main topic at 19:00. After the talk and Q&A, there will be an opportunity to have a discussion and socialise.

Wir freuen uns, euch zu unserem nächsten Meetup einzuladen, in dem es einen Vortrag geben wird, gefolgt von einer Möglichkeit, Fragen zu dem Thema zu stellen.

Unser Gast wird Kevin Esvelt sein, der ein 19-minütiges Video über sein Konzept "Migitating Catastrophic Biorisk" vorbereitet hat. Kevin wird anschließend live zu einer Fragerunde zu uns stoßen. Kevin hat seinen PhD in Molekularbiologie 2013 am MIT beendet und seitdem unter anderem an der Verhinderung von Pandemien gearbeitet.

Wegen der derzeitigen Pandemie wird dieses Meetup online als Videokonferenz stattfinden. Wir werden den Einführungsvortrag auslassen und direkt mit dem des Abends um 19:00 anfangen.

Nach dem Vortrag und der Q&A wird es die Gelegenheit geben, sich mit anderen über Effektiven Altruismus und vieles mehr zu unterhalten.
