Special Fuck-up Meetup – Beyond Aplause: Good Intentions Aren’t Enough
Kazerne - Downtown Eindhoven, Paradijslaan 8, Eindhoven, NL### From Applause to Action (and Fuck-ups in Between)
Social designers on the struggles of turning impact into sustainable change
Doing good is not enough. Social and circular initiatives often receive applause and admiration — but when the spotlight fades, the real struggle begins. How do you turn social impact into structural change? And how do you keep attention, hope and courage alive in times of war?
At this special Fuck-up Meetup edition of the EHV Innovation Café, we give the floor to designers who are hitting real limits — economic, social, emotional. Together we’ll explore how our Give-to-Grow community can help them move forward.

• Struggle: Making social and circular design economically viableDaryna Pasyuta, Marjo van Schaik & Fulco Treffers – Designers & Cultural Connectors, NL/UA
• Superpower: Keeping design alive under the threat of war
• Struggle: Holding attention and connection beyond the first wave of empathy- more Ukrainian speakers to be announced soon
This is not about sudden humanitarian aid workers stepping in, but about designers who claim their role by placing people and nature at the center. They work across borders — both literal and figurative — and continuously seek connection, using creation as their tool. That is what true social design looks like.
Join us for an honest conversation at this Fuck-up Meetup.
Together we’ll explore how to move from applause to actionModerated by Charlotte Grün
Isaac Monté & Eleni Karagiannidou – Social & Circular Designers, Greece
Their story always inspires: circular economy, social inclusion, and beautiful design. But as co-founder Isaac Monté and Eleni Karagiannidou explain, inspiration is not enough. Once the applause fades, they face the hard truth: social and environmental value is rarely translated into actual revenue. Sustainable solutions are labeled “too expensive,” while the hidden costs of polluting alternatives remain invisible. The challenge: how to bridge the gap between social impact and economic viability? How to grow a community of ambassadors who support now, not “when prices come down”?
Daryna Pasyuta, Marjo van Schaik & Fulco Treffers – Designers & Cultural Connectors, NL/UA
Ukrainian and Dutch designers share what it means to design in wartime. With contributions from Fulco Treffers, Marjo van Schaik, and Ukrainian colleagues, we hear personal and professional stories from the frontline. Almost four years into the war, the challenge is no longer emergency relief, but keeping attention, empathy and culture alive. Life in Ukraine is not hopeless — people continue to create, design, and resist. Yet here in the West, fear grows. How do designers, architects and artists keep going, and how do we stay connected to their struggles? How can we, as a Give-to-Grow community, help these designers move beyond applause — and turn impact into lasting change?
Eindhoven city is full of hidden Tech & Design gems that fuel transformation. Now is the time to unite their superpowers. What visions do they hold for creating an attractive, sustainable world for us and future generations? What groundbreaking experiments and prototypes are they developing to boost our society forward? How can we learn from each other and contribute to this shared mission? Join us for an inspiring event where ideas and connections come to life!

6 attendeesTech & Design Meetup – From Local Shit to Local Scrap: Rethinking Raw Materials
Kazerne - Downtown Eindhoven, Paradijslaan 8, Eindhoven, NL### From Local Shit to Local Scrap: Rethinking Raw Materials
What if there’s always a better material – and greenwashing won’t cut it?
What are the hidden effects in the chain of chains? How do you show that something is more durable if costs are higher? And how do you demonstrate the value a designer or company adds to every raw material, local or global?
Join us for a thought-provoking edition of the EHV Innovation Café featuring:
Jean-Marc Moulin: Asking the tough questions – and proving there’s always a better material
Antonia Vincenza Schreiber: From Local Shit to Cool Bricks – scaling sustainable design
Together, we’ll explore how waste becomes the raw material for a new reality — and why there’s always a better alternative if we dare to rethink value and scale.
Whether you’re a tech builder, designer, social innovator, policy maker, educator, or simply a curious thinker or do-er — this is your space to listen, learn and connect. Expect sharp insights, personal reflections, and an open, safe space for conversation.
We are Inclusive by Default and Give to Grow.
The Future is Raw Materials Rethought.Moderated by Charlotte Grün
Asking the tough questions – and proving there’s always a better material
“For every raw material, there’s always something better.” Jean-Marc Moulin started as an engineer in civil construction, moved into sustainable building solutions, and now leads Hydro’s sustainability strategy. Hydro is a global leader in aluminum. Jean-Marc is an agitator by nature, he challenges suppliers, customers and designers alike: is this really the best we can do? Or do we need to dig deeper?During Dutch Design Week at Kazerne Hydro presents the R100 project: five objects, made from 100% post-consumer aluminum sourced from dismantled casements and greenhouses and discarded lamp posts, produced within a radius of 100 km. The result: a 90% reduction in CO₂ emissions from transport, full traceability from scrap to final product – and a powerful statement against greenwashing.
From Local Shit to Cool Bricks – scaling sustainable design
Antonia Vincenza Schreiber develops critical, resource-driven design. She won the Kazerne Design Award 2025 with her Design Academy Eindhoven graduation project Local Shit: a waterproof plaster made of cow manure, clay and sand. An ironic but highly serious response to the nitrogen crisis and the cement industry’s CO₂ emissions. As a team member of Cool Bricks she takes the concept further – from local experiment to global impact.During Dutch Design Week at Kazerne she will present the next step in her research for sustainable building materials and her website Local Shit Construction: a platform for local, abundant building materials - especially for the innovative use of cow manure as an eco-friendly building material.
“For every raw material, there’s always something better.”
