We’re excited to return to ASML for our annual meetup! This year, we have again two concurrent tracks featuring a total of four talks.

Maarten & Tijn | Data Science Applications Within Planning & Delivery
At Planning & Delivery (P&D), we are responsible for orchestrating the complex process of aligning demand and supply as effectively and efficiently as possible. As our products, technologies, and the broader high-tech ecosystem grow in complexity, this task becomes increasingly challenging—demanding the development of advanced, AI-driven decision-support systems.
In this talk, we will begin with an overview of the P&D sector, the Strategy team, and the ongoing research projects. Next, we delve into planning use cases, where we apply data science methods to support critical decision-making processes. These include a digital twin of our new-build supply chain for assessing buffer and capacity strategies, the application of deep reinforcement learning for optimizing inventory planning policies, and the development of a simulation model and optimization methodology to improve production order release planning for complex modules.

Juan Manuel González Huesca | The Power of WHY in Data Science: How Purpose-Driven Thinking Unlocks Real Business Impact
In an era where data is abundant but meaningful insights are rare, this session reframes the role of data professionals, shifting the focus from complexity to clarity, from algorithms to outcomes. Learn how aligning data work with business goals, ethical values, and societal needs leads to solutions that truly matter. Through a practical framework, compelling case studies, and expert perspectives, you'll explore how understanding business problems and user needs, alongside stakeholder engagement, domain knowledge, and strategic thinking, can elevate your technical skills into meaningful impact. Whether you're just starting your data journey or driving innovation, this talk will help you connect the dots between data and purpose.

Ritchie Vink | Polars DataFrames from In-Memory to Streaming to Distributed
Polars is widely known as one of the fastest DataFrame libraries. In this talk, Ritchie gives an introduction into what Polars is, how it achieves its performance and how you can effortlessly scale from running on your own computer, to running on your server, to running on your compute-cluster.

Frank Mbuno | Federated Data, Centralized Action: A Governance Model Powered by Lakewatch and System Tables
In federated data architectures, balancing team autonomy with accountability is a critical challenge. This presentation introduces Lakewatch, our governance model that transforms raw Databricks System Tables into actionable scorecards for cost efficiency and best practices. Learn how this approach drives centralized action, empowers domain teams, and eliminates governance bottlenecks.

Maarten Hendriks | Head of Planning & Delivery Strategy
Maarten Hendriks earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2009, he began working for Quintiq (currently Dassault Systemes)—a provider of Advanced Planning & Scheduling software—where he assumed various roles. In 2018, he moved to ASML and currently is Head of Planning & Delivery Strategy. Since 2016, Maarten is connected to Tilburg University and teaches the annual Master’s course “Supply Chain Analytics”.

Tijn Fleuren | Head of Planning & Delivery Strategy Research
Tijn Fleuren earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Econometrics and Operations Research from Tilburg University. In 2020, he began his PhD research at the same university as part of a collaborative project with ASML, culminating in his dissertation titled “Stochastic Approaches for Production-Inventory Planning: Applications to High-Tech Supply Chains”. As of September 2024, he has assumed his role as Head of Planning & Delivery Strategy Research at ASML. Tijn continues his affiliation with Tilburg University, where he serves as co-promotor, supervisor and teacher.

Juan Manuel Gonzalez Huesca | Senior Data Scientist
Juan Manuel González Huesca is a Senior Data Scientist at ASML who leverages AI to unlock business value, driving innovation through strategic, impact-focused solutions. He brings together deep technical expertise with business analysis and project management to bridge the gap between technical teams and real-world business challenges and user needs. Beyond his professional work, Juan is an author, speaker, and passionate triathlete who also enjoys giving back through volunteering.

Ritchie Vink | CEO of Polars
Ritchie Vink is the Author of the Polars DataFrame library and Co-founder/CEO of the Polars company. Originally he has a background in Civil Engineering, but he soon made the switch to Data/Software development. He has worked as a Machine Learning Engineer and a Software Engineer for 5 years, before he spent all of his time to Polars project. Those years have been filled with side projects to feed his curiosity. His last 3 years have been spent full time on Polars.

Frank Mbuno | Data Engineer at Xebia Data
Frank is an experienced full-stack data engineer with over six years of expertise at the intersection of Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, and Cloud technologies. His proficiency spans the entire data value chain, from designing raw data ingestion systems to successfully industrializing machine learning models.
