Emotions for the better or the worse ?

Emotions are necessary to survive and give meaning to our world, they can also break a persons mind and let him slip into depression.
Chinese politicians laugh about our western counterparts who show there emotions so much and make themselves vulnerable. More and more popular politicians manipulate the emotions of the masses to win elections and play party politics instead of having a professional plan to help there country based on knowledge and intelligence.
Education in Sweden is nowadays more based on emotional and social awareness, in Japan it's more based on learning facts until you drop. What is better, is it just survival of the fittest, may the best win ?.
