An overview of Bare metal 'freestanding' and firmware development
Details
NPM, Cargo, PIP, and if course, GitHub, are all well known ways programmers can get supporting software libraries to do just about anything. But what if you didn't have those? What if not only didn't you have any supporting libraries, nor a standard library, but not even an operating system?
Come learn about bare metal programming: writing software that has absolutely nothing but the hardware to work with! In compiler speak this is known as a 'freestanding' target.
Doug will talk about the various ways he's used bare metal programming in both hobby and professional work. In the industry today such work is often done on Embedded systems, but also has to be done even on the most complex and shiny new desktop or laptop.
Everyone of any interest level is welcome, whether you're just starting out or have a long professional history. Come meet fellow software developers.
