Talk Abstracts:
Talk 1: Evolving Elasticsearch: From Recipes to Rocket Science
Abstract:
From its humble origins for indexing recipes to its use in realtime analysis of interplanetary telemetry, terrestrial threat analysis, and supercharging LLMs, Elasticsearch has stretched and bent to to in cracks and pull together the data we need to empower our insights. Take a trip with me through the past, present, and future of Elasticsearch.
Bio: Tim Bank's tech career spans over 25 years through various sectors. Tim’s initial journey into tech started in avionics in the US Marine Corps and then into various government contracting roles. After moving to the private sector, Tim worked both in large corporate environments and in small startups, honing his skills in systems administration, automation, architecture, and operations for large cloud-based datastores. Today, Tim leverages his years in operations, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering to advise and consult with the open source and cloud computing communities and engineering leadership. Tim is also a competitive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. He is the 32-time American National and is the 5-time Pan American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion in his division.
Talk 2: Do MORE with stateLESS - Philipp Krenn (🎩 of DevRel at Elastic)
Abstract: How would you build Elasticsearch if it was started in 2024? Decouple compute and storage, outsource the persistence to a blob store like S3, dynamically scale up and down, have the right defaults, and a clear path for developers. This is what we have done!
In this talk, learn how we have redesigned Elasticsearch to do more with a stateless architecture that can run hot queries on cold storage. And see how you can get started with it today.
