Building an AI-Powered Medical Research Assistant with Elasticsearch - Mohan Krishna Alavala (Senior DevOps Engineer, Albertsons Companies)
MedSearch AI is a medical research assistant designed to help users quickly discover reliable medical information using hybrid retrieval and AI agents. In this talk, I’ll walk through how Elasticsearch powers the retrieval layer using vector search, keyword search, and hybrid ranking to improve answer relevance. I’ll also share architecture decisions, challenges encountered while combining Elasticsearch with LLMs, and lessons learned building the system during a hackathon.
